Sequencer with more functions?

Would it be possible to equip the sequencers with more functions?
Personally I would find it very musical if the sequencers

Global:

  • Directions (…/forward/reverse/alternate/pendulum/random/brownian/eitherway/…)
  • Timebase (1/2/4/8/16/32/64/2T/4T/8T716T/32T/64T)
  • Bar Length
  • (Force to) Scale

Per row:

  • Last Step
  • First Step
  • ReSync
  • Sync

Individual for every note:

  • note length
  • Velocity
  • Probabilities / Accumulator Events

would support.

I got to know and appreciate these functions through the Cirk lon.

The MIDI sequencer inside the MOD system is a MOD’ified version of https://x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-stepseq-8x8
So you might have good chance of having some extra features by requesting them to Robin (the author).

I know we have an alternative MIDI sequencer in the works, but I have not seen it yet.

Right, it’s an x42 plugin. I think this is the right place to ask a question. X42 plugin - stepseq with more functions?

That is one way to go about it, sure.
You can also request a feature in the source code project page, https://github.com/x42/stepseq.lv2
But since you already posted on the harrison forums, perhaps wait for a response there before posting about the same thing in additional places.

Thanks for the information and help.

That’s great. Hopefully it’s still actively being developed.

We need more CV/MIDI sequencers!

There is a very good collection here https://ryukau.github.io/VSTPlugins/
(URL says VST, but there is also LV2 ports via DPF)

Milkii Brewster has been talking with the author regarding more and more CV stuff to add.
Maybe you can add to the discussion at https://github.com/ryukau/LV2Plugins/issues
Here is a demo session https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCqqNFlPfVI

Sadly ams-lv2 developer is no longer working on his own plugins.

We can do some new plugins if there is no alternative, but better to not duplicate work if a similar plugin already exists and can be extended to add whatever is missing.
I have not been paying too much attention to ryukau plugins too much, but I have seen the collection grow quite a lot in the last few weeks.

Sequencers can be cool as modulation source (especially CV) but I don’t see it as very essential. Especially because they’re hard to program without a proper UI. I’d rather see that my MOD becomes an uber effect flagship than an average sounding jack of all trades with bad UI/UX.

Agreed. But just once via the GUI for example the note length (varying, overlapping, …), the last step, directions, timebase and possibly the global bar length, … could create very interesting CV/MIDI dynamic various polyrhythmics sequences / modulation source.

That step sequencer was developed for the MOD, and subject to limitations due to that. The plugin is pretty much end-of-live (maintenance mode only).
I suggest to have a look at https://github.com/sjaehn/BSEQuencer or similar projects.
